OPEN REHEARSALS

At the beginning of each semester, we organise a few open rehearsals so that prospective members can get to know our choir and sign up for auditions. The next round will take place in the evenings of September 3rd, 10th and 17th (all Tuesdays). Time: 7:15 – 10 pm. Location: Turnzaal (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Grote Gracht 90-92, Maastricht). Please come on time, to avoid delays. The open rehearsal will also be announced on our Facebook and Instagram. If you want to know more, please do not hesitate to email us at universiteitskoor@maastrichtuniversity.nl.

AUDITIONS

Everyone is welcome to join us, a connection to the UM is not necessary. Neither is a background in music, though you do need a good voice and ear–as well as good cheer and dedication! Candidate members must audition for the choir. The auditions this semester will take place in the weeks of the open rehearsals, between 6:30 and 9:30 pm. During the auditions you will do singing exercises in a small group, and individually perform a song you have prepared beforehand. Results are announced within a few days.

PRACTICALITIES

Per academic semester (five months) we work on a repertoire, which we perform during our end-of-the-semester concert. In 2024 Fall semester, we will perform a Lustrum concert featuring Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem! It is not possible to join the UM choir halfway a semester. We rehearse every Tuesday evening in Maastricht’s inner city. In addition, we hold two rehearsal weekends per year, one General Members Assembly, and regular social events. We do not rehearse during the Carnival, Christmas and summer breaks.

COMMITMENTS

We expect members to attend a substantial part of the rehearsals and join the final concert. If you miss rehearsals, please practice at home to prevent holding up the choir. Members’ attendance is also required during the rehearsal weekends and the General Members Assembly. Our membership fee is €50,- for students and €70,- for non-students per semester. This fee covers the rehearsal weekends, two social events, and music scores.
